Register for a Course

To register for a course, create an account on the WVU Genius Portal, find your course in the Course Catalog, click the enroll button, and go to your cart to complete registration*.

When creating your WVU Genius Portal account you will receive an email containing a temporary password. Use this, along with your email address (username), to sign into the system. You will be required to change your password when you sign in the first time.

Affiliations: Our Genius portal is divided into groups called affiliations. If asked to choose an affiliation during sign up, refer to the course listing on our website for the appropriate choice. If you aren't sure or you chose the wrong affiliation during registration, please email us and include your username (email) and the desired course. Having the wrong affiliation may hide courses from you in the catalog.

To register for the course, use the register link provided. First time users will need to create an account while returning users will sign in using their email address and password created earlier. The Course Catalog (link in left menu) contains all the offerings available to you. Find the desired course and use the More Info or View Offerings buttons to access the description and section enrollment options. Read the description carefully for any course pre-requisites, refund policies, and dates before registering. Click the enroll button, to the right of the section, to add the course to your cart. Click on your cart to complete the checkout and payment process. Courses with pre-requisites may require additional steps be completed before you are approved and enrolled.

* Select courses may have pre-requisites that need to be met, submitted, and approved before your class will show up in the Active Course section. These courses will be listed in the Pending Courses window.

Claim YOUR MICROCREDENTIAL

Upon completion of your course, you will be awarded a WVU microcredential. Depending on the course, you will receive a certificate, a digital badge, or both! The digital badges are sent to your email, while certificates are available in your Learner Dashboard at wvu.geniussis.com.

If your course presents you with a digital badge, you accept, store and share your awarded microcredential in Canvas Badges. These badges store data about the skillsets and microcredential requirements you’ve earned, which can be particularly useful for current or potential employers, supervisors or other entities who may want to verify your accomplishments.

If your course awards a certificate, you may access it by hovering over the course title once it has moved to the Completed Courses panel of your dashboard.

SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Once awarded a WVU microcredential, you’ve not only gained knowledge and a greater sense of understanding in an area that matters to you, but you can show off your accomplishments, new skills and learned experiences in a variety of ways.

Showcase Your WVU Microcredential
